HISTORY Established in 1851, the Wooster Brush Company is one of the first paint applicator manufacturers in the U.S. Adam Foss founded the company. He moved from Pennsylvania to Ohio and started the company. In the early days, he started making handmade bristle paintbrushes. Original operations were started in a two-story building located in Wooster, Ohio. The brushes were then sold door-to-door all over the state. By 1909, the Wooster Brush Company acquired the land on Madison Avenue, building a new factory. The place was 200-feet long and 70-feet wide. This created approximately three times the floor space they previously held. The Madison Avenue location in Wooster, Ohio functions as company headquarters nowadays. The business has only elected 9 presidents since Adam began it. In August 2010, William s. Fagert took over as president. He has been with The Wooster Brush Company since 1985. The company has been operating for 165 years. It has reached numerous industry milestones including: Inventing the angle sash brush and the Shasta® style. The first to offer synthetic fabrics for roller covers. Now, this is an industry-standard. Created the “Foss-set” process for cementing bristles into paintbrushes. Developed the Exploded-Tip® process to create soft flags on filament endings. First company to try nylon filaments to make brushes for latex paints. These ground-breaking industry developments have secure The Wooster Brush Company as the highest applicator innovator. Many of the best painting equipment in the industry is made by Wooster Brush. New product designs are available annually. The Wooster Brush Company creates more products than any other high-quality paint applicator manufacturer. The business harnesses a “made in America,” mindset and has passed this on down generations. WHAT MAKES A GREAT BRUSH? Materials Formulated with the best bristles from China, durable blends, strong ferrules, synthetic filaments and supportive, comfortable handles. The Wooster Brush Company only relies on the best items from around the world to create their products. If they can’t find what they are looking for, they have created their own materials. Tipping The working end is the most vital part of the paintbrush. How the filament or tip or finish is engineered is directly related to performance. We highly guard our proprietary tipping methods, as does every paintbrush company, since the tipping is a huge part of what makes each brand unique. Taper Check out the brush edgewise. Note if it tapers and comes to a point, there will be more control. For better coverage, tapered filament brushes allow the paint to flow. “Pumping the paint,” onto the surface and enables easier “cutting-in,” techniques. Level filament brushes or un-tapered filament brushes typically cost less; however, they dramatically sacrifice capacity, control and coverage.
